  • Stop at Kaisando Hall and Nokyodo, the small halls partway up that are among the most photographed spots on the mountain.
  • Wear proper walking shoes, since the steps are uneven stone and can be slippery after rain or in winter.

Tickets and Fees

Checked in July 2026: tickets are sold at the entrance gate on-site; no advance online booking is needed for regular admission. Some inner halls (such as the treasure hall) may charge a small separate fee.

How to Get There

Take the JR Senzan Line from Yamagata Station to Yamadera Station (about 18-20 minutes). The temple entrance is roughly a 5-minute walk from the station.

Combine with Yamagata Castle (Kajo Park) back in Yamagata city, reachable by the same JR Senzan/Yamagata line.
